Focusing characteristics of polarized second-harmonic emission at non-Ising polar domain walls

چکیده

Non-Ising polar domain walls have recently emerged as individual two-dimensional materials exhibiting localized nonlinear optical emission. The analysis of this emitted light often requires focusing with high apertures. As a result, the vectorial properties come into play. This study provides an analytic treatment vector fields’ effect on polarized second-harmonic emission (SHG) arising at walls. While confined fields are expected to alter SHG polarization response, we identify extrinsic and intrinsic capable canceling effects. We determine precise combination fundamental wave orientation which effects negligible. Furthermore, perimeter defined by parameters below negligible is extracted from systematic focus-dependent analysis. Our necessary methodology precautions probe internal structure non-Ising fields, it can be extended explore newly discovered ferroelectric topologic nanostructures.

Polar domain walls trigger magnetoelectric coupling

Interface physics in oxides heterostructures is pivotal in material's science. Domain walls (DWs) in ferroic systems are examples of naturally occurring interfaces, where order parameter of neighboring domains is modified and emerging properties may develop. Here we show that electric tuning of ferroelastic domain walls in SrTiO3 leads to dramatic changes of the magnetic domain structure of a n...

Second-Harmonic Emission from Quantum Cascade Lasers

The mid-infrared spectral region can be covered by quantum cascade (QC) semiconductor lasers, where the emission wavelength is tailored by bandstructure engineering. For a detailed review on QC lasers see Ref. [1]. Their emission energy is well below the band gaps of the hosting material system. Typical GaAs QC lasers operate in the mid-infrared regime with corresponding energies of ~100 meV, w...

Domain walls in the quantum transverse Ising model.

We discuss several problems concerning domain walls in the spin-S Ising model at zero temeprature in a magnetic field, H/(2S), applied in the x direction. Some results are also given for the planar (y-z) model in a transverse field. We treat the quantum problem in one dimension by perturbation theory at small H and numerically over a large range of H. We obtain the spin-density profile by fixin...

Non-Ising and chiral ferroelectric domain walls revealed by nonlinear optical microscopy

The properties of ferroelectric domain walls can significantly differ from those of their parent material. Elucidating their internal structure is essential for the design of advanced devices exploiting nanoscale ferroicity and such localized functional properties. Here, we probe the internal structure of 180° ferroelectric domain walls in lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films and lithium ta...

Circularly-polarized Second-harmonic Microscopy of Fibrous Proteins

Collagens are the most abundant proteins in mammals, especially found in flesh and fibrous tissues. In total, 28 types of collagen are known of which type I is the most common. Structurally, a single type I collagen consists of three intertwined chiral -helixes coiled together, which self-assemble to form microfibrils and even larger fibril aggregates. Due to this supramolecular ordering, fibr...
